Reading aloud at LYA

Springfield Mayor Sarno reads to LYA second grade students as LYA teacher Rachel Zar looks on.

On March 8, Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) hosted several special guest readers in their school during their fourth annual “Community Connections” a special read-aloud day.  “Community Connections” is a project that invites community leaders into LYA and involves their participation during a read-aloud.

The read-aloud offers more than time for students to hear a good story.  Community members’ presence serves as a role model to students of how meaningful and important it is to give back to the community. Readers that day included Domenic Sarno, Mayor of Springfield, Rabbi Max Davis of B’nai  Torah; Meredith Dragon, executive director of Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts; Scott Kaplan, director of Jewish Endowment Foundation of Western Massachusetts; and Michael Paysnick, executive director of the Jewish Community Center.
