Murray Lubowitz of Worcester and Longmeadow died June 6 surrounded by family weeks shy of his 97th birthday. He was the widower of Selma (Putname) Lubowitz. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Jacob and Lena (Swan) Lubowitz. He attended Classical High School and Clark University. He was a member of the Army Air Force during World War II, where he served as a pilot and flying instructor. He was co-founder of the family’s renowned floral business, George’s Flower Shop in Worcester. He was an owner of Houghton Realty. An accomplished athlete, he was a champion at handball and racquet ball, which he played well into his 80s. He was a member of the Worcester YMCA, which presented him with a 50-year certificate of membership. He was a lifelong member of Temple Emanuel of Worcester. He is survived by his children John (Sandy) Lubowitz and Carol (Steven) Adelstein; four grandchildren; a sister, Rosalyn Gloth of Longmeadow; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Jack, and his sisters Hilda Ann Taines and Shirley Zive.
