Western New England University hosted a retirement reception in honor of Rabbi Jerome Gurland last month. Rabbi Gurland served Western New England for 31 years, teaching and tending to spiritual life on campus.
The reception featured campus, civic and religious leaders honoring Rabbi Gurland’s legacy. Speakers included Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno; Dr. Martin Pion, President of the Interfaith Council of Western Massachusetts; Cantor Emily Sleeper Mekler, Founder of B’Shalom Chorale of the Berkshires; and Dr. Anthony S. Caprio, Western New England University President. Rabbi Gurland is seen her shaking hands with University President Anthony Caprio.
