Mildred (Retchin) Abrams, 96, of Longmeadow, died June 17. She was the widow of Lewis E. Abrams. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a lifelong resident of this area. A graduate of the High School of Commerce, she was a salesperson at the former Arkay Shop and Frankle’s for many years. She was also the secretary to the president of Springfield Sugar, also known as Sweetlife Foods. She was a member of Temple Beth El and its sisterhood, the Jewish Nursing Home, where she was also a volunteer, the Springfield JCC, Hadassah, ORT, and the Jewish Federation. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Portnoy, of Venice, Calif.; a son, Robert Abrams, of Killingworth, Conn.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Portnoy; and several nephews.
