Community Shabbat Dinner Slated for Oct. 11

SPRINGFIELD – The Try A Synagogue program is sponsoring its Community Shabbat Dinner on Friday, October 11 at Sinai Temple, 1100 Dickinson Street in Springfield. Services will begin at 6 p.m. with a combined service prior to the dinner with clergy from Sinai Temple and Temple Beth El, while an Orthodox service will be held at the same time at Congregation B’nai Torah, 2 Eunice Drive in Longmeadow. A delicious and festive Shabbat dinner will be served at Sinai Temple (under Orthodox supervision) at 7 p.m. An a cappella group will perform during the meal. People can attend the services, the dinner, or both. These events are open to the entire community, and you do not need to be a synagogue member to attend the services or dinner.

More than 200 people have attended each year, including individuals and couples of all ages, and families with young children. The cost of the dinner is $20 per person for adults; $10 per person for children ages 3-10; and children under 3 are free of charge. There is a maximum family price of $60. This year, space is limited and no walk-ins can be accommodated. Please note that seating requests cannot be guaranteed; however, complete tables of 8 can be reserved.

Reservations can be made by check or credit card. Dietary laws will be observed, and food will be prepared under Orthodox supervision. There are optional sponsorship opportunities at $36 (Bronze Sponsor), $72 (Silver Sponsor), and $180 (Gold Sponsor) levels, which will help defray the expenses for this event. To R.S.V.P., visit the Federation’s website at www.jewishwesternmass.org. The deadline is Monday, October 7.

If you would like to receive an invitation, or for more information, contact Debbie Peskin at the Federation office at (413) 737-4313, ext. 121 or dpeskin@jewishwesternmass.org. Try A Synagogue is a program underwritten by the 3 participating synagogues, Congregation B’nai Torah, Sinai Temple, Temple Beth El, and the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts.
