Sylvia Edith Burack, 85, of Worcester, died Sept. 30 at St. Vincent Hospital. The daughter of the late Tillie and Morris Grossman, she graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and attended Clark University and Assumption College. For many years she was principal lyric soprano for the Worcester Chorus, and performed at the Worcester Memorial Auditorium, The Gardner Museum in Boston, and Carnegie Hall. She sang with orchestras such as The Detroit Symphony, with conductors including Sixton Earling. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Toby and Mark Goldstein of Worcester and Louise O’Shaughnessy and Donald Shreibman of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Michelle and Meredith Goldstein; a sister, Goody Safer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Zelda Freedman, and brother, Ken Grossman, and by her former husband, Joseph Burack.
