Ida Rotman celebrates 101st birthday
Ida Rotman recently celebrated her 101st birthday. A longtime resident of Worcester, she now resides in Lake Worth, Fla. She and her late husband, Murray, moved to Worcester from Boston in 1945 and began a carpet and furniture business, which became Rotman’s Furniture and Carpet. They were leaders at the Beth Israel synagogue and a number of other local Jewish organizations. When she and her husband moved to Florida, they became founding members of Temple Beth Tikvah of Greenacres. Ida has three sons, Barry, Steve, and Bernie, who are all involved in the family business. She has eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, the oldest of whom just graduated college.
Ida still lives on her own and loves to play bridge, read, do crossword puzzles, and meet with family and friends. “She loves her Yiddish, especially in story-telling which teaches the thoughtfulness of Jewish living while also giving you a good laugh,” said her son Bernie.
Last year, at the age of 100 (around the time she stopped driving), she was honored at a regional Women’s Empowerment conference at the DCU Center in Worcester, receiving an award for her business acumen and success and delivering an address to the thousands of women in attendance.
Happy Birthday Mollie Blatt!
HOLYOKE – At Shabbat services on Feb. 7 at Congregation Sons of Zion honored and celebrated the 98-year milestone birthday of Mollie Blatt. Mollie was called to the Torah, received blessings from Rabbi Saul Perlmutter, and during celebratory singing she and a Hebrew school student joyously danced together on the bimah. Daughter Leah and son-in-law Jerry Glasser were there to celebrate. Mollie has two other daughters who live out of state, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Members of the Hebrew school were delighted to share in this momentous day as they love Mollie’s playful spirit, musical talent, and her authentic interest in each and every one of their lives. Mollie has been a member of Congregation Sons of Zion since 2001. She, along with her current partner Bill Robbins, works in the SOZ office weekdays, welcoming and assisting members.
