SPRINGFIELD – The Jewish Endowment Foundation of Western Massachusetts (JEF) is accepting applications for both college education scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year and Israel Young Adult Scholarships. The deadline for applications is April 15.
All college scholarships are administered through a single application process. Students completing the application and meeting eligibility requirements will be considered for both the Springfield Council of Jewish Women Scholarship Awards and JEF Common Fund Awards.
Springfield Council of Jewish Women Scholarship Fund Awards: The NCJW program includes more than 28 named funds and annual awards, and oversees the distribution of awards from the Edna Frankel Memorial Fund and Jonas and Ann Heit Foundation. Scholarships are available to all qualified students regardless of race, religion or gender in Springfield, East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Hampden, Agawam or West Springfield. Awards range from $750 to $2,000 and are renewable for up to four years.
JEF Common Fund Awards (available to Jewish students): Blanche Alport Memorial Scholarship Fund for Judaic Studies. For college students studying in Israel. Preference is given to students attending Hebrew University.
Lloyd Bardach B’nai B’rith Scholarship Fund: Applications will be accepted from any Jewish resident of the greater Springfield community.
Cantor Kalman Chaitovsky Memorial Scholarship Fund: Awarded to students continuing their Jewish education in secondary schools and undergraduate studies.
Maurice Kurn Memorial Fund: Supports individuals seeking advanced degrees in the field of Jewish communal service. Preference given to applicants who have demonstrated interest in and/or commitment to serving the Jewish community in Springfield and the surrounding communities.
Jeffrey A. Parish Fund for Study in Israel: Available for undergraduate or graduate study in Israel, with preference given to graduate students. Applicants must live in the Pioneer Valley. Awards are based on potential for future Jewish leadership, academic achievement and need.
Aaron Posnik Family Fund: For local Jewish students in the greater Springfield community who demonstrate excellence and achievement in athletics. Applications for advanced degrees will be considered if an award recipient is not selected from an undergraduate program.
Israel Young Adult Scholarships
The Israel Young Adult Scholarship Program is available to local students participating in eligible programs, including Israel educational/cultural tours, and study in Israel taking place during the summer of 2015 or in the 2015-2016 academic year.
Hebrew Education, Culture and Israel Scholarship Fund: Applicants must live in Hampden County and have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school, and must participate in a summer teen study and/or tour program in Israel. Based on continuing Jewish education, community involvement, qualifications and potential for future leadership.
Melvin and Florence Lavin Fund for Israel Travel: Supports college and graduate students who wish to travel to Israel for an educational or cultural program. Priority is given to students who are unaffiliated and/or have not been to Israel before.
Jody Berg Memorial Fund: Provides scholarships for teen travel to Israel. Financial need is the primary criterion for this award.
Nathan & Joan Libby Jewish Education Fund: Available to high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors for participation in teen study and/or tour programs in Israel. Awards are based on need, qualifications, and potential for Jewish leadership.
Lillian and Phillip Bessof Simcha Restricted Fund: This fund was established to provide support for local Jewish teens and young adults to participate in organized Jewish-oriented activities.
Irving and Mollie Merrill Scholarship Fund: Provides scholarships to teen and young adults who wish to pursue their Jewish education in Israel. Preference is given to congregants of Congregation B’nai Torah, Temple Beth El, or Sinai Temple.
Lynn and William Foggle 50th Anniversary Fund for Israel Scholarships: This fund provides financial assistance to students from the Springfield area who participate in educational travel to Israel during or upon completion of 11th or 12th grade.
Leslie and Beatrice Kahan Scholarship Fund and Bertha and Abraham Ritterman Scholarship Fund: These funds provide scholarships for a variety of purposes, including travel to Israel.
