Generations of Goodness

LONGMEADOW – Celebrate Generations of Goodness with LYA by joining members of the Western Mass. community at Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy’s scholarship reception, Tuesday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Congregation B’nai Torah, 2 Eunice Drive.

LYA will honor Ronald Eckman and Oscar Plotkin. Paul Cohen will be the recipient of a Special Visionary Award and there will be a memorial tribute to Rabbi Dovid Edelman of blessed memory.

Eckman and Plotkin enjoy a long-standing relationship with LYA and share a strong connection with Rabbi Dovid Edelman of blessed memory. In December 2014 the two honorees were instrumental in gathering a group of friends and supporters for a reception, at which time they presented Rabbi Dovid Edelman with a $90,000 check for LYA in honor of his 90th birthday.

“These two honorees exemplify giving to our Jewish community with compassion and humility,” said Susan Goldsmith, former LYA Scholarship reception honoree and member of the LYA Reception Committee. “LYA is honored and humbled to highlight the generosity of Ron Eckman and Oscar Plotkin at Generations of Goodness and thank them for supporting Jewish education in Western Mass.”

Ron Eckman is the current CEO and founder of Deicing Depot. He is the Vice Chairman of Forest Park Zoo in Springfield and was one of the founding members of “Coats for Kids” campaign. Eckman has been a strong supporter of many Jewish organizations, including LYA.

Oscar Plotkin is an investor and developer in the commercial real estate sector. He began his career working with his father and brothers, Evan and Daniel, at Samuel D. Plotkin and Associates in Springfield, and later formed the development company Berkshire Development.

LYA will present Paul Cohen with a Special Visionary Award. Cohen is the co-founder and chief financial officer of Planned Furniture Promotions in Enfield, Conn. He and his late wife, Harriet, have been supporters of LYA for many years. Harriet left a generous bequest to LYA upon her passing following an illness in 2008.

The LYA ad journal will be distributed at the event. For more information about Generations of Goodness LYA Scholarship reception or the ad journal, call LYA at (413) 567-8665 or email info@lya.org. The cost for the dinner is $90 a person. Checks may be mailed to LYA, 1148 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106.
