NORTHAMPTON – Mak’hela, the Jewish Chorus of Western Massachusetts, announces the launch of its 13th season, starting with its annual Open Rehearsal on TUESDAY, OCT. 13, from 7:30-9:15 p.m. (The rehearsal was previously scheduled for Sept. 29).
Mak’hela welcomes new members. Mak’hela members come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Some are experienced singers and music readers; others learn by rote and simply love to sing. Auditions are quick and extremely painless.
Mak’hela rehearses on Tuesday nights from 7:30-9:15 p.m. at the Lander-Grinspoon Academy, 257 Prospect St. in Northampton. The chorus performs a variety of music, from Yiddish tunes, to contemplative melodies from the Jewish liturgy, to more serious concert music (such as Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” and Bloch’s “Sacred Service”) and everything in between.
