SPRINGFIELD – On Thursday, Nov. 12, Springfield JCC’s young adult theater group opened the curtain on their latest mainstage musical performance, “The Producers.” Based on Mel Brooks’ 1968 film, this show is a laugh-out-loud, outrageous, crowd-pleasing farce that has been considered a smash hit since its 2001 debut.
“The Producers” will also be presented on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, through Nov. 22 at the JCC, 1160 Dickinson St.
“The J is thrilled to be opening its third J-ART season with a classic Mel Brooks comedy,” said Producer Becca Coolong. “Watching this show rehearse has been a riot. To go from the Broadway stage of The Producers to the swamps of Shrek, this is going to be a hilarious season.”
J-ART (The JCC Actors Repertory Theater) was created as an arts initiative to give young adults ages 15-30 the opportunity to showcase their talents through performance, direction, and technical production. Initiated in 2014, J-ART has already developed a dedicated following of performers and theater-goers. Past productions include “Avenue Q,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” and their most recent production, “Seussical: The Musical.”
