Dr. David E. Lawrence of Longmeadow, died Nov. 1 of complications from a stroke.  He was the husband of Frieda (Diamond) Lawrence. A New York City native, he was the son of the late Harold and Ida Lipsky. He graduated from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  He served during World War II by caring for farm animals in Maine. He later founded Lawrence Animal Hospital, a thriving small animal practice in Queens, NY, where he enjoyed mentoring young veterinarians from around the world. In 2013, he and Frieda moved to Longmeadow, MA to be closer to their children.  He was the first and only long-practicing veterinarian in the country to become a board-certified “Diplomate.” In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ronnie Leavitt and her husband, Richard Alpert, of Longmeadow, and Leslie Lawrence of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Alan Leavitt and his wife, Jenni, Kenneth Leavitt, and Samuel Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
