KOVALENKO

Asya Kovalenko, 85, of Springfield, died July 4. She was the wife of Vladimir Kovalenko. She was the daughter of Naum and Bertha Lev, of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. Born in Stalino, Ukraine, she lived in Uzbekistan during World War II, then returned home to Ukraine in 1945. She graduated from the University of Chernovtsy in 1953, with a masters degree in Russian Language and Literature. She taught Russian Language and Literature to high school students in the Dnepropetrovsky region of Ukraine. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Maya Baker of Longmeadow; a granddaughter, Anastassia Baker, of Longmeadow; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Eleonora Lev of Sturbridge.
