Worcester JCC offers new fitness Activities

WORCESTER– The Worcester JCC has unveiled three new programs this fall that give kids and adults additional opportunities for fun and fitness.:

Super Soccer Stars teaches soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment to children. The philosophy of the program is to use soccer to nurture, to build self-confidence, and to develop teamwork in every class. The specially designed curriculum uses positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio to ensure that each child improves at his or her own rate while having endless fun.

The JCC kicked the soccer program off in September with a 3-week mini-session on Mondays and a full set of 8 classes on Saturdays, with scores of kids from the area participating. Registration for two upcoming sessions is now open:

  • 8-Week Monday program beginning on October 31
  • 6-Week Saturday program beginning on November 12

Fencing classes promoting self-confidence and self-reliance are being offered on Wednesday evenings for youth 7 and older, as well as adults. During these classes the Blackstone Valley Fencing Academy trains fencers to excel both in the sport and their personal lives as they exercise both mind and body with tactical thinking and fast footwork. The JCC is a great place for members and non-members to learn the language of fencing – en guard, attack, parry, rispote, touchez – in a friendly environment. The next 7 week session starts November 2, for more information visit http://bit.ly/2dR8XXN.

Pickleball is a fun sport for adults 18 and up that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It’s an easy game for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Pickleball is always free for JCC members, and for non-members it’s free for the month of October and only $5 beginning in November. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the JCC’s gymnasium. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/2cZs3de.
