Harold Gurwitz, 96, of Worcester, died Dec. 23 at his home at the Willows. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Waxler Gurwitz. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Nettie Litsky Gurwitz and Samuel Gurwitz. He served with the Fourth Infantry Division in World War II. He graduated from Classical High School and attended the Northeastern University School of Business. He spent his entire working life at Mercantile Printing Company, starting in 1937 and retiring in 2002. He was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and Worcester Lodge of B’nai Brith. He was a corporator of the Worcester Art Museum, Corporator and trustee of the Worcester Historical Museum, president of Jewish Family Services of Worcester and the board of directors of Bet Shalom Apartments. He was a member of the President’s Club at the Jewish Healthcare Center and a volunteer for Rachel’s Table. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Gurwitz, of New York City. He was predeceased by two sisters, Norma Feingold and Edith Katz. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
