Deborah Schimmel Butterworth of Washington, D.C., died Feb. 18. She was the wife of Charles E. Butterworth. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of David and Beatrice Schimmel. She graduated from Springfield’s Technical High School before going on to Michigan State University for her BA in Fine Arts, where she was also a member of Delta Gamma. She continued on to the Alliance Française in Paris, and finally to the University of Chicago where she received her master’s degree in art history. She was a French teacher at Georgetown Day School. She was a member of the New Horizons Band. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Gabriella B. Genia and her husband, James; a granddaughter, Madeleine; and a brother, Philip Harris of Longmeadow.
