Ruth (Nuger) Seldin, 91, of Longmeadow, died March 3 at home. She was the widow of Oscar Seldin. She worked as the bookkeeper at Interstate Tire in Springfield and then as head bookkeeper for Springfield Tire, from which she retired in 1985. She was one of five mothers of children with developmental disabilities who refused to lock their children away in institutions and who founded The Association for Community Living. She volunteered and became the first treasurer, then later served as president for the organization, now known as the Pathlight Group. The Association would play a major role in helping her daughter Debbie become the independent woman she is today, with her own job, apartment, and friends. Ruth and Oscar became Founding Corporators of The Association in 2003, and they later became Charter Members of The Association’s Legacy Society. She is survived by a son, Harold; and a daughter, Debbie. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care, 770 Converse St., Longmeadow, MA 01106; or to Pathlight, 220 Brookdale Dr., Springfield, MA 01104.
