LONGMEADOW – Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) sponsored two community Purim events that were attended by more than 300 people. The celebration began Saturday, March 18 with the megillah and was enjoyed by 150 costumed community members. On Purim day, March 19, LYA rabbis read the megillah for community members at LYA, the Purim Carnival at the Springfield JCC, Glenmeadow and Revolutions Bowling and Lounge at a Purim party for Young Jewish Professionals. Rabbis from LYA visited several homes to read the megillah for people unable to attend synagogue. LYA PTO organized a successful Mishloach Manot, food gift fundraiser and volunteers delivered over 400 gift packages to families in the area. Purim ended with a Russian feast in LYA’s auditorium that was prepared by volunteers. LYA’s rabbis entertained the crowd with a surprise Purim Rap that had participants clapping along.
