Frances L. Scheckter, 98, of Longmeadow, died Sept. 28 at the Levitt Family Nursing Home. She was the widow of Samuel Scheckter. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Rebecca and Joseph Lamper. She graduated from Springfield College and subsequently earned her master’s degrees from Springfield College and UMass. She taught at the Blueberry Hill School in Longmeadow for more than 25 years. She joined the Springfield Museums as a docent at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum upon retiring from teaching. She also tutored students of all ages in English as a second language. She was an active member of Sinai Temple. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Scheckter Feinberg and her husband, Robert; two cousins, Anita Goldfried and Larry Powers; nieces Ilene Cohen, Carol Fenichel, Marilyn Rosenberger, Rebecca Lampert Egan, Lisa Simo; and nephews Scott, Bruce, and Jeffrey Lampert and their families. She was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel and Bernard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rabbi’s Fund at Sinai Temple in Springfield, or to Jewish Geriatric Services in Longmeadow.
