David I. Katz of Springfield died Dec. 28 at Baystate Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Lucille (Liberman) Katz. Born in Springfield, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He was the office manager for the cutting department for Chicopee Undergarment Corp. He was active in the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts since 1952 and a former unit commissioner and member of the Jewish Committee of the Western Mass. Council Boy Scouts of America, a cub master and committee chairman of the Cub Scout Troop #2. He was a past vice president and president of the Disabled of Western Mass. Inc., a former chair and member of the Handicapped Commission of the Town of West Springfield, and a longtime member of Temple Beth El. He received the St. George Emblem for Scouting in 1976, the Silver Beaver Award in 1968, and the Shofar Award for Jewish People in Scouting. He is survived by a brother, Charles Katz. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.
