Sidney Baron, 96, of Longmeadow has died. Born in Holyoke, he was the son of Berol and Sarah (Jed) Baron and was raised by Lilly Baron. He was the husband of Evelyn (Davison) Baron. During World War II, he volunteered and was assigned to a U.S. Coast Guard ship for two years in the South Pacific. He owned his own real estate business for 40 years in Springfield. He was active on the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors and was its president from 1969-1971. He was president of an organization that opened one of the state’s first community group homes for disadvantaged boys and was a board member for the Association for Community Living. He volunteered for years for SCORE, an association of retired executives, who gave consultation to people seeking to open their own businesses. He is survived by three children, Nancy and her partner, Ray Jureidini of Cairo, Egypt, Glenn and his wife, Kathryn Holum of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Ron and his wife, Irit Baniel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four granddaughters, Ruby, Marlee, Julia and Naomi. He was predeceased by a son, Bruce; and two sisters, Belle Mackler and Pauline Sawl.
