Stanford Cohen, 95, of Longmeadow, died March 10. He was the husband of the late Gloria Cohen. Born in Turners Falls, he was the son of the late Abraham and Minnie (Solomon) Cohen. He graduated from Springfield Tech and served his country in World War II in combat as well as initiating the first military radio broadcast from Greenland, providing news and entertainment to his fellow soldiers throughout Europe. He was the owner and operator of Memorial Supermarket in West Springfield from

1947-1954. He later joined Mott’s Supermarkets and became president. Upon retirement he taught business courses at UMass and consulted well into his 90’s for Five Star Supermarkets and Waverly Markets. He was a member of Crestview Country Club and was a member of the Esoteric Lodge of Masons and a Shriner of the Melha Temple of Springfield for over 65 years.  He is survived by his children, Richard and Kye Cohen of Old Saybrook, Conn., and Jane Cohen of Springfield; his grandchildren, Dr. Adam Cohen (Robyn) of Dresher, Pa., Jordan Coe (Christopher) of Wethersfield, Conn., Alexander Cohen (Ciara) of Killingworth, Conn., and Zachary Cohen (Taryn) of New York; great-grandchildren, Billy, Danny, Noah, Lil, Hannah, Kit, Jack, Gloria and Charlie; a sister, Shirley Sogolow of Englewood, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Elaine Chintz of Avon, Conn.; and a large extended family.
