Herbert Charles Jackowitz, 88, of Lantana, Fla., formerly of Springfield, died March 8 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Frances (Schaffer) Jackowitz. Born in Hudson, N.Y., he graduated Classical High School when his family relocated to Springfield. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then graduated as a registered pharmacist from Hampden College of Pharmacy. He began his career at the former South End Pharmacy, and then for over 35 years, he served as managing pharmacist for the former Bliss Pharmacy in Longmeadow. In early retirement he continued working at several stores including Walmart Pharmacies. In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his children, Mark and Ronda, Elaine Rotenberg, Ken and Lori, and Judy and Ken Rotenberg; his grandchildren, Rachel and Ari Berezin, Adam and Iryssa Jackowitz, Leah and Pedro Rangel, Talia Jackowitz, Sam and Keilah Rotenberg, Rebecca Rotenberg, Mia Jackowitz, Ethan Jackowitz, Jacob Rotenberg and Zachary Rotenberg; great-grandchildren, Nava and Ella Berezin, Meir and Della Rotenberg, and Geordan Jackowitz; a sister, Lois Goldberg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Family Services of Western Mass., Alpert Jewish Family Services of West Palm Beach, Charlotte Jewish Family Services, Temple Beth El, or local veterans organizations.
