Thelma (Barr) Goldberg, 96, of Longmeadow, died May 21 at home. She was the widow of Dr. David Goldberg. She grew up in Springfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dora (Rosnick) Barr. She was a 1940 graduate of Commerce High School. After graduating she worked at MassMutual Insurance Company. When the U.S. entered World War II, she joined the U.S. Navy as a Wave and served honorably as Yeoman First Class. During the course of her three years in the service, she attended Iowa State College and Hunter College in New York City. She later worked in the office of her husband, an orthopedic surgeon in Springfield. She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Goldberg and her husband, Adam Peck, of Longmeadow, and Shelley Goldberg of New York City; her grandchildren, Joshua and Alyssa Peck; two sisters, Helen Barr of East Longmeadow and Naomi Knight of Boston; two brothers, Pat (Sylvia) Barr and Arnold (Rita) Barr of Longmeadow and Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Ida (Louis) Black, Francis (Jasper) Danziger-Kahn, Harry (Ann) Barr, Lefty (Mary) Barr, Minnette (Jack) Minkin, and Phyllis (Arthur) Lutz.
