WORCESTER – The USA Triathlon Foundation endorsed the Worcester JCC’s Triathlon Summer Camp program that took place last week.
The TAF Junior Triathlon Camp, which ran from July 9 through July 13, introduced kids from grades 3 through 10 to the exciting sport of triathlon. The day camp focused on skills development and fun. Instruction included swim stroke improvement, bike handling and safety, running skills, warm-up routines and nutrition. TAF Junior Triathlon, Inc., the group helping the JCC provide this camp experience, is a non-profit organization whose mission is the promotion of a healthy lifestyle that young triathletes can develop for a lifetime.
The endorsement from the USA Triathlon Foundation included providing a grant to help make the weeklong program affordable. Thanks to the grant and the JCC’s scholarship program, youth from Friendly House were among the participants.
“We are honored to receive the stamp of approval from the nation’s most recognized youth triathlon organization,” said Emily Rosenbaum, executive director of the Worcester JCC. “Providing high-quality, fun and rewarding summer day camps for youth throughout the region is one of our most important endeavors, and to have the USA Triathlon Foundation’s support for our TAF Junior Triathlon Camp for kids seven and older was a fantastic achievement.”
There are still openings in a variety of JCC Sports Camps, which run through the end of August.
“Our sports camps are fantastic ways for youth from throughout the Worcester region to have fun this summer while they learn teamwork and sportsmanship, build community and make memories that will last a lifetime,” said Bob Berman, Health & Physical Education Director at the Worcester JCC.
