James S. Kaufman of Springfield and Estero, Fla., died July 23 at Baystate Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Mary (Zak) Kaufman. Born Feb. 10, 1935 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Leo and Sadie Kaufman. He graduated from Harvard Law School and served as Springfield Associate City Solicitor. He served on the Springfield Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He was also a proud U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Judy, Richard, Barbara, Donald, Peter, Linda, Kathy, Janey, Jimmy and Elizabeth; and dear friend Jean Robbins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jean Dolcourt, Florence Oppenheim and Iris Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Dias Foundation, 398 East St., Ludlow, MA 01056.
