Zelma (Schmidt) Lavin, 91, of Longmeadow, died Aug. 16 surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Dr. Richard A. Lavin. Born in Pittsburgh, she had lived in Longmeadow since 1961. She was a member of Sinai Temple, where she was a past president of the Sisterhood, and a past secretary and 17-year member of the temple’s board. She was a member of the Springfield Jewish Federation, where she served as chair of the women’s campaign. She was a life member of Hadassah, the Council of Jewish Women, and JGS Lifecare, and was a board member of the Jewish Family Service and ORT and a secretary of the Hebrew Free Loan Association. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert and Margaret Lavin, James and Marie Lavin, and Dr. William and Shirley Lavin; her grandchildren, Shelley and Jacob Barandes, Lisa and Harmony Johnson, Jennifer and David Drelicharz, Christine Lavin, John and Ashley Lavin, Julie Lavin, and Thomas Lavin; and her great-grandchildren, Sadie, Emily, Penelope, Jackson, and Aaron.
