WORCESTER – Neil Patrick of Patrick Motors got involved with the Jewish Healthcare Center’s (JHC) Home Run/Walk 5K Road Race15 years ago.
Since then Patrick has raised thousands of dollars with the support of hundreds of sponsors around the Worcester area for the JHC.
“I started helping with the road race because of the great work Jewish Healthcare does for the community, and I feel strongly about continuing to support the center,” he explained.
The Jewish Healthcare Center and Patrick Motors are again hosting the annual road race, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23. This 5k fundraising event, presented by Patrick Motors in memory of his Neil’s late parents, Miriam and Merle Patrick, takes place at the Healthcare Center, located at 629 Salisbury St., in Worcester.
The race will start at 10 a.m.
This year it is anticipated that more than 100 runners will participate in the road race, running the route of the 3.1-mile run/walk and a brand new short loop for walkers. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in all age categories. The first 100 to register for the road race will receive a free tech t-shirt.
And for the second year, participants can Run/Walk with their dogs.
A complimentary bagel brunch, including Table Talk Pies and other treats will be provided for runners and their families.
The family-friendly event will also include kids’ activities, such as a bouncy house, face painting, and opportunities to pet and interact with farm animals from Alpaca Lips Farm.
Adding to the dog-friendly atmosphere, there will be dog treats from Ellie’s Pet Barn and the Second Chance Animal Shelter will be there with dogs to adopt.
While the event is sure to be fun for everyone, participants will be doing good – by supporting an important institution in the local community.
“The goal of this event is to raise much needed funds to support JHC’s mission and to care for our elderly, rehabilitation and hospice patients,” said Jody Fredman, director of development for the Jewish Healthcare Center.
For more than 100 years, the Jewish HealthCare Centerhas provided excellent care to its residents and patients. JHC offers highly specialized programs for post-hospital rehabilitation, home care services, as well as long-term care, Alzheimer programs, hospice and more, in a dignified and comfortable setting.
“JHC’s focus is senior care in our facility and at home for those who live in Central Massachusetts and beyond,” Fredman added. “We are truly thankful for Neil Patrick’s support over the years.”
Sponsors of the Sept. 23 Road Race will receive their names on the back of the race t-shirts, the JHC’s winter newsletter and its social media pages.
