Each year for Thanksgiving, United Synagogue Youth (USY) of Congregation Beth Israel in Worcester organizes, sponsors and makes apple pies for the community to raise funds for USY programming. Before Thanksgiving, the kids worked side by side in the planning, prepping, and preparing the kosher, pareve pies. The fun day also included playing Monopoly and Mah Jongg while waiting for the pies to bake. This year the group sold a record 90 pies — many to be donated to future synagogue luncheons or to needy families. Laura Traiger, USY Advisor, and parent/grandparent volunteers, Anna Perlin, Jeffrey and Lydia Borenstein, Roberta Silver, and Jonathan Jacobson also pitched in.
