James A. Russell, 82, of Longmeadow, died July 14 at Bay State Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Marion Butler. Born in Springfield, he graduated from Monson Academy, attended Bryant College, and then joined the family business, succeeding his father Matthew, as CEO of American Pest Solutions of Springfield. He was a Regional Director of the National Pest Management Association. He was a member of the Masons 32nd degree, the Elks, and the Shriners. He served on the Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Commission for 21 years and served as chairman. He served on the Longmeadow Council of the Aging Board and oversaw the planning and approval of a new Longmeadow Senior Center building. He was a 54-year member of the Springfield Rotary Club and was a past president. He was named Rotarian of the year, was a Paul Harris award winner, and recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award and the Person of the Year award from the Connecticut Pest Control Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Bob (Lisa); a grandson, Jordan; and two  sisters, Barbara Kornfield and her husband, Mike, and June Russell and her husband, Robert Ulrich. He was predeceased by a daughter, Michele; and his first wife, Bertrice Rosenthal.
