Melvin M. Palley, 92, died Dec. 16 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. He was the husband of Sylvia (Shankman) Palley. He graduated from Commerce High School and Clark University. Following World War II he served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He was a manager and co-owner of D & M Shoe Co., the family shoe business in Hudson for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, B’nai B’rith and for many years served as an advisor for AZA #52. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa Engel and her husband, René, of Los Angeles, Calif., Donna Palley and her husband, Steven Scudder, of Concord, N.H., and Carolyn Mathers and her husband, David, of Berlin, Md.; five grandchildren, Jacob Scudder and his wife, Emily, and Rachel and Emma Scudder, and Chloe and Thomas Mathers; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Alden Scudder. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carlton and Henry Palley; and his sister, Esther Palley.
