Gladys “Goody” H. Safer, 93 of Stoughton, formerly of Worcester, died Jan. 19. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Isadore “Izzy” Safer. Born in Worcester she was the daughter of the late Morris and Tillie (Rutman) Grossman. She was a dedicated and active member of the Shaarai Torah West Synagogue where she served as the first president of Sisterhood and worked as the synagogue and Hebrew school secretary for many years. She was an accomplished accordionist who, along with her sister, Sylvia, entertained soldiers at Fort Devens during World War ll. She is survived by three children, Susan Bernstein and her husband, David, of Stoughton, Dr. Jeffrey Safer and his wife, Missy, of Seattle, Wash., and Dr. Theodore Safer and his wife, Cheryl, of Sharon; grandchildren, Adam Bernstein and his wife Ariel, Michelle Schweiger and her husband Jason, Devan Safer and his wife Emily, Jason Safer and his wife Alyssa, and Jessica Safer and her fiancé Jonathan; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by siblings, Zelda Freedman, Sylvia Burack, and Kenneth Grossman.
