After the Department of public health restricted visitor access to nursing homes on March 12 to protect their elderly residents from the coronavirus, the Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence in Worcester devised a way for families to continue to visit – almost in person.
Eisenberg staff, whom had already been assisting residents with FaceTime, Skype, and other forms of online communication with loved ones, set up a meeting area, divided by a sealed window. While Eisenberg residents sit inside the center, they can see their visitors through the window. Those on each side of the window use microphones and speakers to speak with each other.
Eisenberg has held several of these 30-minute meetings over the past two weeks.
