Stanley Philip Chiz died April 17 after a hard-fought battle with Covid-19. He was the husband of Vickie Phillips Chiz. Born May 8, 1928 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Ruth and Abraham Chiz. He was a member of the Classical High School graduating class of 1946. He went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1950. He volunteered to join the Army, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. He returned home to work alongside his father at the family business at Standard Tire. He later joined his father-in-law (the late George Aronson) to open the wholesale business of Standard Office Supply. He was active in the UMass Alumni Association where he served as president from 1977 to 1979. He was a Shriner, and a Free Mason, where he earned highest honor of 33rd degree. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Kim Phillips-Watkins of Northampton; a step-granddaughter, Chelsea Watkins of Alburquerque, N.M.; three sons, Lawrence Chiz and his partner Adam Maxfield of Chicopee, James Chiz of Longmeadow, and Michael Chiz and his wife, Dana, of Longmeadow; three grandchildren, Adam Joseph Chiz of Agawam, and Abigail Molly Chiz and Leo Garrison Chiz of Longmeadow; a niece and nephew, Linda Colton and Bruce Colton, both of Longmeadow.
