Zelda E. Stein, 94, of Worcester, died July 28 at Jewish Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Sydney Stein. Born and raised in Springfield, she was the daughter of Eli and Frances (Sakowitz) Rubin. She attended Mt. Ida Junior College. Early in her career, she worked as a bookkeeper and helped her husband at the family business, the Family Fair. At age 50, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Worcester Stage College, and went on to work for the Barre public school system and the Solomon Schecter Day School in Worcester. She later took over a catering company that her daughter had started, and renamed it Zelda Stein Catering. She was a longtime member of Temple Emanuel in Worcester. She is  survived by a daughter, CarolAnn (Stein) and her husband, Joseph DiGregorio of Holden; two sons, Lawrence and his wife, June Greenman of Holden and David Stein of Worcester; a sister, Roberta and Goldberg and her husband, Ellis, of Boca Raton, Fla; a grandson, Jacob and his wife, Katie DiGregorio, of Chicago; and a great-grandson, Jack. She was predeceased by three sisters, Irma Goldstein, Shirley Weinstein, and Sarah Jacobs; and two brothers, Merwin Rubin and Bernard Rubin.
