David Heller of Longmeadow died Dec. 17 of complications from mesothelioma. He was the widower of Helen (Hartman) Heller. He is formerly from Manchester, Conn. where he was a longtime member of the Local 777, working as a pipefitter. He later retired to Vero Beach, Fla. He served in World War II as a submariner aboard the USS Sea Dog in the Straits of Japan. He remained an active member of Sub Vets of America, traveling to annual conventions across the country. He is survived by a son, Mark Heller (Sara Stashower) of Cleveland OH; three daughters, Cathy Heller of Minneapolis, MN, Phyllis (Ed Ventura) of Princeton N.J., and Tracy (Ted) Garrity of Enfield Conn.; a brother, Seymour in Lisbon Conn.; grandchildren, Adam and Lauren Heller, Max and Maggie Nelson, and Megan and Tyler Garrity; and great-grandson, Ethan.
