Dolores S. Cohen of Springfield

Dolores S. Cohen of Springfield died on Dec. 23 after a valiant two-year fight with cancer. She was the widow of Milton Cohen. Born and raised in Hartford, Conn., she was the daughter of Rose and Harry Cohen. While still attending Weaver High School, she was active in a modern dance group and also met her future husband. She later attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Sociology. After raising three children, she worked as a preschool teacher at the JCC in Longmeadow, and later as a tutor and special needs teacher in the Longmeadow school system. Subsequently she taught English to non-English speaking students at Heritage Academy. She later returned to the JCC in a special pre-school program called “Lunch with Mrs. Cohen.” Most recently she was a volunteer reader at Frederick Harris School in Springfield. She is survived by a brother, Bill and sister-in-law Anita of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Lauren Sinay and son-in-law, David, of Framingham and Andee Cohen of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; a son, Robert Cohen and daughter-in-law, Judith, of Ludlow; and four grandchildren, Reenat and Sharona Sinay and Zachary and Jared Cohen.
