Jewish Teens Carry on MLK Legacy

NORTHAMPTON – On Sunday, January 16, the Jewish Teens Of the Valley (JTOV) and B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Philanthropy, and Leadership.
Teens are invited to the program to explore the Jewish values of tzedakah (charity, righteousness, justice) and tikkun olam (repairing the world). The day will include community service projects to benefit the Amherst and Northampton Survival Centers and workshops designed to increase teens’ leadership skills with the aim of developing strong Jewish role models in the area of community service. Teens will also have the opportunity to allocate funds from their registration cost to a local non-profit organization of their choice; the B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program will match these donations.
The program will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Lander Grinspoon Academy, 257 Prospect Avenue in Northampton. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, Philanthropy and Leadership is sponsored by Jewish Teens Of the Valley, B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program, B’nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO), and Lander Grinspoon Academy, and is largely funded by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation Teen Initiative and the B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program.
