LYA Walk-a-thon Benefits Tornado Victims

The Walk-a-thon not only raised funds for tornado victims, but was a great way to exercise and socialize. These Middle school students enjoyed walking and spending time together.

LONGMEADOW – Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) organized a Walk-a-thon late last month in the school’s baseball field at 1148 Converse St.   Students spent the last week of school securing sponsors who donated money per lap or a flat fee.  LYA students from grades kindergarten through eighth grade raised over $1700. The Walk-a-thon was the initiative of Julie Seay, kindergarten and third grade secular studies teacher.  “The tornadoes that devastated our neighboring towns caused loss of life, serious injury, and destruction of property,” she said. “The LYA family feels compassion for our neighbors that have endured so much and are proud to be doing their part for the re-building of our community.”
All funds once collected will be distributed for Tornado Relief through the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts.
