Karen Neiman Michelman, of Longmeadow died at home surrounded by her family on Aug. 22 after a brief illness.  She was the wife of Jay Michelman. She was the daughter of Richard Neiman of Pompano Beach, Fla., and the late Rhoda Neiman. She graduated from Boston University and received her Master’s degree from George Washington University. She served as director of the Longmeadow Adult Center for the past 24 years.  She was a member of the Massachusetts Councils on Aging, the Allocation Committee for the United Way, and the Advisory Board of the Area Agency on Aging.  She was a board member of the Western Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging.  She played a key role in the regionalization of the local paratransit services, and she was a strong advocate for elders and their caregivers. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Glenn and Shayne of Longmeadow;  brothers, Roger (Bonny) Neiman of Mountain Lakes N.J., and Andrew (Helaine) Neiman of North Caldwell, N.J.; nieces and nephews:, Lane, Jamie, Eric, Rachel, Ryan and Adam; her father-in-law, Leonard Michelman of Boca Raton; a sister-in-law, Margot Michelman of Boca Raton; a brother-in-law, Eric Michelman (Linda) of Laguna Hills, Calif., and their children, Jack and Jenny. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Longmeadow Older Citizens Association, Inc.
