The election process came alive for students at Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) as the kindergarten through eighth grade participated in a Mock Election on Nov. 1 as part of the National Student Parent Election. LYA joined more than 50 million young voters who participated in this non-partisan educational program that was founded in 1980. Results from LYA were faxed over to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston in order to be included in the National Student Parent Mock
Election results for the country. LYA middle schoolers organized voting booths, ballots, and ballot boxes. Set up like an actual polling station, students voted by district for president, senator, and congressman.
“Voting made me feel older” commented Sophia Brackman, a fourth grade student. “Today, I learned what congressional district I’m in,” commented fifth grader, Shoshana Olkin. And
who won the presidential election at LYA?
Governor Romney by 9 votes.
