IDF reserve colonel beaten to death in Jordan Valley terror attack

( Hundreds of people attended the funeral on Friday, Oct. 11, for Israel Defense Forces reserve colonel Sariya Ofer, who was murdered in the early hours of Friday in the Jordan Valley village of Brosh Habika in a Palestinian terrorist attack.

Ofer was reportedly beaten by several Palestinian men wielding iron bars and axes. His wife, Monique, sustained non-life threatening injuries. She arrived by ambulance to his funeral and was carried on a stretcher to the burial plot.

Israeli security forces arrested five Palestinians suspected of being involved, Army Radio reported. The attackers escaped while Monique ran to Route 90 to flag down help. Two of them, Uda Farid Taleb Kharoub, 18, and Bashir Ahmed Uda Kharoub, 21, Palestinians from Hebron, have confessed to the murder.

“No one will rest until the trails of the murderers are uncovered and the whole picture becomes clear,” Israeli President Shimon Peres said in a statement.

Ofer, who was in his 50s, was a former commander of IDF troops in the Gaza Strip.
