SPRINGFIELD – Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts completed its annual Passover Project last month with the generous support of the community. Volunteers packed and delivered 260 bags of kosher Passover food for distribution at over 20 partner organizations in Western Mass.
Volunteers delivered food to adult day care centers, food pantries, shelters, assisted living communities, nursing homes, and community centers in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties. This project reaches vulnerable groups – isolated elders, disabled adults and people facing economic hardships. Passover bags were also delivered to 40 homebound elders through the Springfield Jewish Community Center’s meals-on-wheels kosher program.
This year, more than 50 day school students helped pack all the bags at the JFS office on the Grinspoon Jewish Community Campus. The student volunteers from Heritage Academy, Sandy Kupperman Learning Center, Lander-Grinspoon Academy and Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy came with their educators to perform this mitzvah.
