SPRINGFIELD – A group of 15 men representing the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts travelled to Washington to advocate on behalf of their community and for an update on domestic and foreign affairs. The group, led by Chair Jay Loevy, was joined by State Sen. Eric Lesser for briefings by White House staff members. They also visited the Israeli Embassy where they discussed Israel in depth and enjoyed informal talks over cocktails.
On day two, mission participants visited the Sixth & I Synagogue, an historic building which was rescued from commercial development by Washington Jewish leaders. On Capitol Hill, the group met with Sen. Edward Markey, Rep. Richard Neal and a representative from Gov. Charlie Baker’s D.C. office. Both Senator Markey and Congressman Neal shared their support for Israel and the Western Mass. Jewish community. Trip participants included co-chairs Eric Lesser and Jay Loevy, Dr. Martin Broder, Dr. Gabriel Cohn, Kevin Cohn, Joseph Dorison, Richard Engelson, Charles Epstein, Dr. Marc Goldman, Allen Grosnick, Mordechai Kamel, Rabbi Chaim Kosofsky, Dr. Morton Lynn, Jerome Munic, Jeffrey Sagalyn, and Dr. Alan Sampson.
