ISRAEL – Harold Berman, former executive director of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts and resident of Israel for the past seven years, is celebrating his 50th birthday by running five marathons in – one for each decade – and using the marathons to raise $5,000 for the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled. Berman already has completed the Jerusalem Marathon (March) and the Geneva, Switzerland Marathon (May). He will run Athens, Greece in November, San Antonio, Texas in December, and his fifth marathon, Tiberias, Israel, in January. He is already halfway toward his $5,000 fundraising goal for the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled. “I am raising funds for the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled because when I see the astounding work they do with people who are missing limbs and still manage to achieve so much, it inspires me to work that much harder,” Berman said. Donations to the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled for Harold’s marathon project can be made at http://www.fiscd.org/mitzvah-Berman.html, or at Berman’s blog about his 5-marathon experience, www.ontheroadto50.com.
