Phyllis (Slone) Shotland, 91, of Longmeadow, formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., died March 15th at Baystate Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Seymour “Sy” Shotland for 66 years. She was a graduate of Hunter College and Hofstra University where she earned her masters degree in education. Phyllis was fluent in five languages including Spanish, which she taught in the Levittown, N.Y. public school system for 22 years. During World War II, she was employed by the Voice of America as an interpreter. She was an active member of Sinai Temple and the JCC in Springfield. She is survived by a son and daughter-in law, Terry and Vicki Shotland of Longmeadow; two grandchildren, Brian Andrew Shotland and Emily Rachel Shotland; and nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Dr. Ian L. Shotland; and a granddaughter, Amy Lyons Shotland. Memorial contribution may be made to Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA, Hadassah of Newton Centre, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
